Will your body still let you say yes?

Not just to the holiday.

  • To the walk.

  • The hike.

  • The stairs.

  • The snorkelling trip.

  • The day exploring a new city.

  • The spontaneous adventure.

Many of us dream about travelling more as we get older. But very few people stop to ask an important question.

Will my body still allow me to do the things I dream about?

Travel is about much more than getting on a plane.

Think about your last holiday:

  • How many steps did you walk?

  • How many flights of stairs did you climb?

  • How many times did you carry your suitcase?

  • How often did you walk on uneven ground?

  • How many hours were you on your feet exploring?

Travelling isn't just about where you go. It's about what your body allows you to experience when you get there.

The ability to say "yes" depends on capabilities that quietly change over time.

Cardiorespiratory Fitness

Walking all day through Rome, hiking in New Zealand or snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef all require cardiovascular fitness. One of the strongest predictors of healthy ageing is your VO₂max—your body's ability to use oxygen during exercise. Like muscle, it naturally declines with age unless you actively work to maintain it.

Strength

Strength isn't just about lifting weights. It's carrying your own luggage. Lifting a backpack into the overhead locker. Climbing hundreds of steps to reach the view you've always wanted to see. The stronger you are, the easier everyday travel becomes.

Muscle

Healthy muscle helps you walk further, recover faster and stay active throughout your trip. It also supports your metabolism, balance and long-term independence. Muscle is one of the greatest investments you can make in your future adventures.

Balance & Mobility

Travelling rarely happens on perfectly flat ground. Cobblestone streets. Boat decks. Mountain trails. Uneven footpaths. Good balance and mobility help you move confidently and reduce the risk of falls while exploring new places.

Recovery

Travel is physically demanding. Long flights. Different time zones. Busy days. Poor sleep. Healthy recovery allows you to wake up the next morning ready to do it all again.

The best holidays don't happen by accident.

Neither does the health required to enjoy them. The physical capabilities that make travel possible don't suddenly appear at 70. They're built gradually over decades through movement, nutrition, strength, sleep and healthy habits.

What does travel actually require?
