Weight & Metabolic Health
Medical weight management that looks beyond the number on the scales
Weight is only one part of metabolic health. I provide doctor-led assessment and treatment for people seeking medical help with weight, metabolic health and body composition, including consideration of medications where clinically appropriate.
The goal isn't simply to make the number on the scales smaller.
It's to improve health and body composition while protecting the things that matter — particularly muscle, nutrition, bone health and physical function.

Is this appointment for me?
This consultation may be appropriate if your main reason for seeing me is:
concerns about weight or changes in body composition
metabolic health
understanding whether medical weight management may be appropriate
discussing potential medical treatment
reviewing previous or current weight-management treatment
improving body composition while protecting muscle and physical function
ongoing medical monitoring during treatment
This is medical weight management, rather than a generic weight-loss program.
A different approach to weight
The scales don't tell us enough.
Two people at the same body weight can have very different amounts of muscle, body fat and visceral fat — and very different metabolic health. That's why I look beyond weight and BMI. Where relevant, we'll consider:
Body composition
Muscle and lean mass, body fat and visceral fat.
Metabolic health
Factors such as glucose regulation, lipids, blood pressure and other relevant medical risk factors.
Muscle and physical function
Because losing weight at the expense of muscle is not the outcome we're aiming for.
Nutrition
Including whether your nutrition can adequately support muscle, bone and overall health during treatment.
Movement and resistance training
To support strength, function and longer-term health.
The goal is not simply weight loss. It's better health and better body composition.
What happens?
Before your appointment
You'll complete a health questionnaire before we meet.
Please also complete either an InBody or DEXA body-composition assessment before your consultation. This gives us an objective baseline that goes beyond body weight alone.
If you have recent relevant blood-test results or information about previous weight-management treatments, these can also be reviewed as part of your assessment.
Your Consultation
40 minutes via telehealth
We'll review your goals, health history, previous treatment and body composition, as well as the medical and lifestyle factors relevant to your metabolic health.
We'll then identify the priorities that matter most and discuss reasonable treatment options.
Depending on your individual situation, this may involve:
nutrition and lifestyle strategies
resistance training and physical activity
further investigation
medical treatment
Weight management medication where clinically appropriate
monitoring of body composition and metabolic health
Medication is one possible tool — not the entire treatment plan.
What about medications?
Weight management medications can be useful medical treatments for appropriately selected patients, but they are not suitable or necessary for everyone.
If medication is being considered, we'll discuss its potential role in the context of your health, goals, previous treatment and individual risks.
Where treatment is used, the aim is not simply to achieve the fastest possible weight loss.
It is essential that we pay attention to nutrition, muscle preservation, physical activity, gastrointestinal effects and overall health while monitoring your response to treatment.
Monitoring what actually matters
Body weight can be useful, but it doesn't tell us whether changes are coming from fat, muscle or both.
For patients receiving ongoing care, body composition can therefore be monitored alongside treatment response and relevant health measures. Ongoing patients have access to a monthly InBody body-composition monitoring at PMQ Health at no additional charge, where useful for tracking progress. DEXA may also be used when a more detailed reference assessment is appropriate.
